"Gronlandic Edit" by Of Montreal

Uncertain as to the nature of this venture as I may be, I feel moved to share this little gem from a band I have recently come to admire by way of the internets. Maybe it's the Architecture...'s sound, and the danceable spirit that reminded me. Of Montreal lead singer Kevin Barns' lyrics are whimsical, dark and bizzare, and the band owes a lot to the Beatles. But it's full of disco and groove and the vocal harmonies, let's just call them special. They sound every bit as tight live as they are on the records, and they're just alot of fun.

Guess it would be nice to give my heart to a god
but which one which one do I choose?
All the churches fill with losers psycho or confused
I just want to hold the divine in mine and forget all of the beauty's wasted

My biggest concern about this track is how difficult it would be to sing along to. The pitch is just to high for someone who has a vocal range of less than half an octave. For mine, "singability" is a factor in how close I can get to a song. Which is why I sometimes struggle to fully take on board music in other languages and a lot of hip-hop.

Other than that, I can appreciate the appeal here. The disco fever is infectious, perhaps almost ironically so.

Then there's this:
I guess it would be nice to help in your escape
From patterns your parents designed

- a sentiment I can appreciate both as a parent and as someone who has parents.

As for the uncertain nature of this venture, all I can say is Welcome Aboard the Wobbly Express!

Yes, his vocal level is insane, and while I'm sure the tracks are layered thick on the recording, the band sounds dead-on live, which blew my mind.

And that's the lyric I always wait for. ;) One can always hope...
