"Guns of Brixton" by Nouvelle Vague

One of my favorite covers, even if she does mispronounce Black Mariah.

My computer is not authorized to play these files, Herr Brown. Please, you give them without DRM locks? (and don't ask me how - I don't do tech support anymore.) hahahahahahahahahahahaha

This is supposed to be an angry song. Making it so mellow destroys the grit, the angst, that which gives the song gusto. And she mispronounces Black Mariah.

But that's what Nouvelle does - it's so weird hearing groovy-musak versions of these gritty angst-filled songs I grew up with. I really like "Killing Moon", but it's a guilty pleasure.

One of my friends in Chicago knew the generation gap had hit (and that maybe the world was doomed) when she heard her daughter kind of muzakily cooing the Rolling Stones: "The time has come for violent revoluuuuuuuuutionnnnnnnnn."
